Rainy Day Fun For Kids – With an Air Mattress!
I know, I know. It sounds crazy. Rainy day fun with an air mattress?!
My kids invented this one all on their own.
We don’t have central air in our 115 year old house, so occasionally my husband and I sleep downstairs where we have a window unit. My daughters are spoiled and have their very own air conditioner in their room. We have attempted sleeping in their room on hot nights, but the kids are so excited they don’t fall asleep until 10pm.
It so happened we had an air mattress in the living room and the next day was a dreary, gloomy day. Whatever are we going to do in a home full of toys…..
We are going to make an air mattress slide. That’s what.
Not only did this entertain my kids for over an hour, but it was quite entertaining for me as well. I got a good laugh out of them throwing themselves down the mattress.
A couple precautions —
- Make sure you have plenty of pillows on all sides in case someone falls off.
- One at a time or one can get a foot in their face and the fun ends quickly
- Going down head first is not recommended 🤪
We simply took the mattress and leaned it against the ottoman which was pushed up against the couch. We put some cushions under the mattress after the ottoman to support the mattress a bit.
When the sliding fun got too out of hand, we turned it into a magic carpet and watched Aladdin!
Sometimes your typical toys aren’t enough to occupy kids on a rainy summer day. It takes some creativity, but if you use some unconventional items, you’ll be sure to entertain your kids for hours on end!
