Chalk Couture… Is it worth the hype? Here’s my review of Chalk Couture‘s transfers, pastes and inks.
Haven’t heard of Chalk Couture? Chalk Couture is a new set of products that is revolutionizing crafting. Chalk Couture makes reusable adhesive transfers that can be applied to almost any surface. They also make chalk paste, which can be used with their transfers and their beautiful line of magnetic chalkboards so you can switch out designs whenever you’d like. Couture Ink is a permanent ink that can be used with their transfers to make mugs, pillows, shirts, signs, you name it.
I ordered a starter kit because I wanted to see what Chalk Couture was like. The videos online made it seem very easy and fun. So, did Chalk Couture live up to the hype?
Admittedly, I was very excited to get the kit in the mail. I opened it up as soon as I received it and attempted to get busy, but apparently my kids were as excited as I was, because it turned into a kids craft project. I got to experiment with everything, so did the kids, and all were happy and content. Win!
I followed the directions and cut apart multiple piece transfers, then “fuzzed” them on a towel or T-shirt to make them less sticky. This is an important step, otherwise the transfer could stick to the surface too much and you risk stretching the transfer and leaving a residue on your surface. Just ask me, when I had my Facebook Live #fail – my 3 month old baby was screaming in the other room (and was inconsolable despite my husband trying to settle him down) while I demonstrated on Facebook live. I was in a hurry and forgot to fuzz, and a lot of my transfer stuck to my sign. Thankfully I was able to turn it around into a lesson on why fuzzing is important and how to fix it if you make the same mistake.
After fuzzing, you simply stick the transfer into your surface and press it down. Then, scoop up some paste or ink and squeegee it over the surface. You can put the extra back into its container. Then, peel it off and voila!
Afterward, rinse the transfer out right away and wipe the back with a disinfecting wipe to help the adhesive continue working properly. Let it air dry and put it back on its backing.
So, what do I think about Chalk Couture and the starter kit?
My starter kit came with some very fun transfer designs, chalk paste, a beautiful framed chalk board, and a round chalkboard. I wasn’t a big fan of the combination of paste colors that came in my kit (school bus yellow, light pink, white and a dark green), but I have ended used all of them for separate projects. And, they change these colors often to go along with new kits they launch. The new kit that’s out right now is one in very envious of and wish I would have gotten. It has summer themed designs and is super fun.
The whole concept is one I’m a big fan of. It’s better for the environment because the transfers are reusable. I go through many single use stencils each week and it hurts to see all the excess material go into the garbage. They’re a HUGE time saver because I don’t have to weed vinyl! It’s so nice to just grab some transfers and get right into MAKING rather than spending so much time preparing to make! Just THAT alone convinced me to try it out. The details in the transfers are amazing and I couldn’t get that look with regular stencils. Although I prefer to design all my stencils myself, I couldn’t resist giving it a shot given the ease of use and it’s huge time saving abilities. While I find cleaning the transfers a bit of a pain and have been known to leave a mess in my office while they air dry, now that I’ve gotten into a routine and have down how to care for them, it’s second nature to me now.
It sounds crazy, but Chalk Couture‘s products have made me passionate about crafting again. I used to have to put off making projects because of the time they took and needing to juggle the many other hats I wear, but now I can grab a surface and some ink or paste, grab a transfer that’s all ready for me, put the ink on, peel it away, and I’m done! It’s a huge time saver and did I mention how EASY it is?! After I browsed the Facebook groups to see projects people have made, I found myself so inspired to create, and every day I want to make something. And I know that I can, because of how quickly I can make multiple projects in a short amount of time, instead of needing to set aside 5x the time because of prep work. It brought me out of my creative rut I was in and has me excited about making again.
Even though it was hard for me to buy products that are designed by someone else and premade, after using their products, I’m sold. The details, the fact that it saves so much time, they’re reusable, and I can use them on so many surfaces are all big selling points for me. It adds great versatility to my workshops at my studio because we can make so many more things now, and I can spark creativity in others. That is so important to me because I have a passion for getting others together and being creative even if they feel they aren’t. When someone who is admittedly not “artistic” tries to make a craft and they realize how easy and fun it is, the confidence and pride they have in themselves when they walk out of my studio is absolutely priceless.
If you haven’t checked out their products, please do yourself a favor and take a look today. You’ll love what you see and will be so inspired to create.

My name is Pat Wyatt. I joined Chalk Couture last April. I love the product but find myself not outgoing enough to sell, so I cancelled my membership after 2 months. I did not understand about the PV and afraid of not making it. I see comments about just being a hobbyist. First can you rejoin and secondly after my 2nd or 3rd month can I no longer use the discount to buy the product as long as I pay the monthly fee which looks like it has jumped up to $25 as just a hobbyist.
Hi Pat! It sure can be hard to sell a product when you are an introvert or don’t feel comfortable pressuring people to buy. In fact, I’m the same way! All the lingo can be hard to learn. PV is personal value, which is what you make based on what you have purchased yourself and what others have purchased from you. You have to have a certain amount of PV to stay in Chalk Couture. I don’t sell a crazy amount, but I’ve been in CC for 6 months … they haven’t gotten rid of me yet ;). Yes, you can rejoin Chalk Couture. If you’re looking for a new mentor, I’d love to have you on my team. Just search for Amanda Brissette. If you order through your account, you always get 40% off, forever! The monthly fee is actually still $19.99, which includes a monthly transfer sent to you. When you rejoin, you do have to buy another kit. They have two kit options now and have made sooo many improvements to their site and products. New surfaces, ink, improved products. Are you comfortable doing demonstrations on Facebook Live? Those are hard to do at first, but demonstrating has helped gain a lot of interest.
Hello. I am interested in joining a team, but finding it difficult for people to respond to my emails. I don’t want to just pick a random team. I need someone that will help when I need it and respond to emails.
Please help
Hi Lindsey! I’d love for you to be a part of my team. I’m also part of an amazing community of chalkers who are so helpful. If you go to the Chalk Couture website, join under Amanda Brissette. You won’t regret it! 😉
Can you buy the chalk or ink from any where else etc craft stores. It takes to long for my order to come in.
Hi Elaine! Unfortunately the paste is specially formulated and is what you will need to use to not damage your transfers. For inks, though, Speedball inks can also be used in addition to the Chalk Couture Ink. I’ve found Chalk Couture is getting better about shipping times as they attempt to keep up with the great demand of their products. They also offer expedited shipping now, which is great!
Hi Amanda!
I am very interested in learning more about this chalk couture company.. it honestly seems right up my alley! Sadly, there is no one in my immediate area that is a designer and id like to really talk to someone to get a better understanding on how this thing all works. May I reach out to you via email? I assume it can be found on you chalk couture page?
Found your blog by searching for an honest review of the kit/company 🙂
Best xxx
Nicole

Can the chalk or ink be used with any other stencils? Or do they only work with their brand? I would like to use them to make some personalized items.
I recommend using the chalk and ink with their transfers only. I have had mixed results using the ink with other stencils. I also make my own stencils and use chalk paint or permanent paint mixed with a fabric mixative. Chalk Couture has some lettering fonts you can use to personalize items.
I have been wanting to sign up with chalk couture to add to the craft workshops that I offer in studio and through home parties but was told I had to keep the chalk couture completely separate from the other workshops I offer. As I read your post it sounds like you have used the chalk couture to expand your workshop offerings. So before I completely discard the possibility are you allowed to intermix the chaulk couture with other craft workshops and if so would I need to sign up as a hobbiest or designer. Thanks
When I first signed up, this was a blurry line for me. I contacted someone to clarify, and she explained that you can offer Chalk Couture workshops at your studio, however, you need to specify that it’s a Chalk Couture workshop. I think this is so customers don’t get confused with your studio brand versus Chalk Couture. I’ve had customers use the transfers to dress up their signs and also for vintage window projects…the possibilities are endless with workshops!
Hi,
I’ve been looking into Chalk Couture for a couple months now. Unfortunately, I got hurt so I haven’t been able to take the leap from interested to joining yet.
Im pretty sold on the products and think it’s a really good quality.
One thing I’m wondering about with the quarterly goal to make… am I trying too sell the business, products I make from Chalk Couture or having people do classes?
Thanks!
Hi Jacqui!
For the quarterly minimum, that can be just on products YOU buy to use, whether that’s for your own projects, workshops, or selling the products themselves. Hope that helps!
I’m a beginner crafter and would love to try the product and have it to play with for a while and not become a seller until I got comfortable and used to it is there a way of doing that after buying a kit or would I be better off just joining the membership
Hi Miriam! You can head over to the Chalk Couture website and place an order for some transfers and ink or paste without joining! They have small transfers you can play around with too if you don’t want to start with big ones.
My question is are you still with the company? I signed up the first part of April and the person who signed me up was of NO support at all. I finally called corporate to ask if I could switch to another sponsor I had met on line who was very helpful and they would not allow that. Information I learned about “rules” etc. would change and it was terrible trying to get started. I’ve worked sales for over twenty five years so selling etc. is no problem. The problem was gathering information about what the company does and does not allow for setting up your facebook page and where to go to get what you need to do this. I was not alone in my frustration. Also, the shipping changed and they charge 8% of the RETAIL cost of the product to ship. So, bottom line, are you still with CC?? Thanks.
Hi Lynne!
A couple months ago, I gave CC a break. It hasn’t been anything against the company; I just have taken on way too many things! I’m hoping to get back into it soon. If you want to switch sponsors, you could probably quit and then buy the new kit and sign up again, but you’d have to buy another kit 🤷🏻♀️ That’s a bummer they won’t let you switch! If you do stop and then sign up again I can recommend some great leaders that are super helpful!
Would you rather use the chalk or cricut? I currently have a cricut and I love it. My favorite part is weeding. i love it so much honestly. lol i seen this chalk today I am really interested. in this. i do not sell many things, I make things with the cricut and i love to make wreaths. What is your facebook Id love to follow you.
Hi Helen!
My Facebook Page is:
https://www.facebook.com/wildfreeandcrafty
The biggest benefit to CC is that you can get way more detail with their transfers and you can reuse them. If you mostly do plain words, using stencils cut from a Cricut would be more convenient and cheaper, but for imagery and really detailed things, I vote CC. They also have patterns now so you can pattern pillows, curtains, bedding, etc.!
How easy is this stuff to clean off of a chalk board? I have a very large chalkboard in my
Kitchen that I change about once a month. It’s very time consuming as I normally do them by hand. This looks like it will save so much time however I would prefer to use my Cricut and make my own stencils. Will this work for that? And how easy is it to come off without ghosting. I’ve learned the hard way the chalk markers are a no no.
Hi Kim! As long as you use the chalk paste, it’s pretty easy to get off! You have to scrub a little, but making the design on a chalkboard is WAY faster and easier using Chalk Couture.
I am a little confused….to be a member you have to sell to stay in the membership? I honestly would like to join just for me, is that an option?
You can either purchase retail on their site, or you can join and not necessarily “sell”. You do have to meet a minimum every quarter of $150 in sales whether it’s from yourself or others.
